Size of magazine
Our magazine is 52 pages A5 ,printed digitally.
Our printers say this is the limit for their 'booklet maker'. Does anyone have experience of printing more pages.
I would be interested in the method used.
The printer said he would try extra pages but no guarantees it would work.......

I produce an A5 magazine, feel it looks better, is easier to handle and post. It is four pages on one sheet of A4 folded to give A5 and our normal run is usually 16 pages. 80 copies done on the Church photocopier. To use A3 paper folded to give A4 would be a lot more expensive as A3 paper relatively more expensive than A4. I use TIMES NEW ROMAN font at 11 point, 14 for headers.

I use A4 folded to give four pages. Since I have started using colour I receive more photographs, so the number of sheets has gone up to seven, 28 pages.
I have 6 pages of adverts which brings in £600 per year.
There is a charge made by one of the four churches which are supported.
£7 per year rising to £8 in January, because of the extra expense of colour, fortunately most people give at least £10.
The church which makes the charge pay me to produce 200 copies each month.
I use Microsoft Publisher on my own computer and print on my own colour copier.
I rely on Parish Pump for the front and some of the infil.

My Parish Magazine is 48pp + covers and I am likely to 'stick' at this pagination as a further four pages would tip it over the 100gram postage, so it would cost more to send to postal subscribers. When I took over two years ago it was 36pp + covers and was printed on matt paper. This year it has gradually increased in size (largely due to extra features from Parish Pump) and it is now produced on glossy paper with full colour covers. From January onwards it will be in full colour throughout which was my target when I took over as editor. It is designed in Publisher and printed by a local printer.

Our church magazine is usually 40 or 44 pages depending on content. Like many others I produce in Word, copy and paste into Publisher for an easy A5 issue. [In other comments - I do mainly use two columns per page and start longer articles on 'odd number' pages - if two pages long folk won't skip it so easily if they start reading before they see its length!].
We print on a church printer [b/w] with a colour cover on a 'wax' colour Xerox printer both direct from my laptop and reproduction is better than taking a 'home' copy and then copying again.
Last month I started a new idea - partly to reduce printing costs and postal costs for those away from the area. I convert it into a pdf file and email it [with instructions to view as a two-page like the magazine]. A normal print run is 365 copies already reduced by a dozen. It has the added advantage in that all colour is seen in the e-mail version - June's isue was 18 photogrpahs plus 16 other colour graphics. The email version is a complete version [as the printed copy] whereas the version on the website is edited so no personal information is seen. The web version can be seen on www.msnmcc.org.

We produce 56 A5 pages and have been told the same thing by our printers so you should be safe for another sheet of paper (4 pages) we have on occasion gone to 14 sheets but then the volunteer delivery people start to complain about the weight.
