History of magazines

How old are these church magazines? Why were they started in the first place? Does anybody know?

http://www.cofe.anglican.org/about/diocesesparishes/parishmags/history.html I found it on the CoE website and have copied & pasted this. If it doesn't work just go to the offical CoE website and put 'church magazines' in the search and you'll find it. It was 150 years old in Jan 2009 by the way. Though I haven't got the Parish Pump archive to hand I belive they carried the story too.

Scribbler beat me to it! Parish Pump did an item about this in the editorial of March 2009. I have just found it in the archives.
