Advertising feature: Advertiser of the month
Hi Folks,
I started as editor in my Church Magazine around 6 months ago and I am enjoying it. The magazine is A5 size 20/24 pages plus adverts on a centre sheet.
I have included an 'Advertiser of the month' feature with photo, as a special thank you to my advertisers.
This month I had a coffee at a local small restaurant and interviewed the owner, a lovely lady who was thrilled when she heard the article was for free and told me lots of interesting things; when she opened, how she trained etc. I took a photo of a pretty corner with a table laid for dinner and it all took just half an hour. The restaurant is opposite our church, and she has already had a new customer from the article. It is black and white, no colour.
I feel this is part of serving our parish community and I have learnt more about the Parish and its people in six months as Magazine Editor than in the last two years that I have been in the church. (My 'real' job is organist and choir trainer, ulterior motive...to promote the church music)
I hope this idea helps other editors to fill their pages with useful items.

That is a good idea, Lesley We don't have advertising in our magazine but every now and then we have an article about a particular part of church life - The Baptism secretary, the Brown Owl from the Brownie Pack, etc. We also try to use an article from Parish Pump that invites a response. We had a good response to 'how long have you lived in your house' And more recently, memories of the war. These are more in-depth than the 'regulars' Drama group, Youth for Christ etc who put in an article every month.
